Gary Robert Melson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Robert Melson, who left us peacefully surrounded by family on May 14, 2025 at the age of 70.

Gary was a kind and thoughtful soul who brought warmth, humour, and quiet strength to the lives of all who knew him. Born in Barrie, Ontario and a longtime resident of Angus, Ontario, he was known for his gentle nature, and deep appreciation for the simple joys in life.

A true animal lover, Gary had a special place in his heart for cats. Over the years, he gave many a safe and loving home, treating each with care, and an endless supply of affection (and treats). He will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty to his family and friends, his quick shy smile, and his quiet ability to make those around him feel at ease. Though he preferred a humble life, his impact was far-reaching, and his absence will be deeply felt.

Gary also found great pride and purpose in his work with his extended family at Cochrane Sod Farm. He loved being part of a hardworking team, and his dedication, humour, and easygoing presence made him a favourite among coworkers and family alike. The farm held a special place in his heart, and he cherished the time spent with those he worked alongside.

Gary is predeceased by his mother H. Dorine Melson (née Kilgour) and survived by his father Ronald Melson of Port Sydney, children Shaun and Jessica, his siblings Ronna Law (Bruce), Laurence Melson, David Melson and Rhonda Melson, nieces and nephews and members of his extended family Gary Cochrane (Carol), Mark Cochrane (Jen), Kristen Petheric and Courtney Petheric, Gord Morice, Cyril Hines, and the many other friends that enriched his life and for whom he was always very grateful.

In keeping with Gary’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral or immediate gathering. However, he was deeply loved and deserves to be celebrated! A celebration of life will be arranged in Angus with a date pending. Please check back with this notice for future details and date.
