The Passmore family announces the passing of Doug Passmore on July 15, 2025 at The Pines in Bracebridge, at the age of 92.

Doug is survived by his wife Ruth (Belshaw) and they were in their 70th year of marriage.  He is also survived by his children: Sherri Pate (Wilson) of Paris, Ontario; Brent of Brampton; Lisa Poulos (Theodore) of Novar.  Grandchildren: Gregory (Beth), Mark (Bia), Brad (Melissa), Alexander (Christina), Sara (Pat).  Great-grandchildren: JP, Ryan, and Logan.

He was born at home in Gravenhurst, Ontario on May 30, 1933 to his parents, Wilfred & Grace (Martin). He was predeceased by his three older sisters:  Barbara McPhail (John), Elsa Thompson (Dana), Lois Reid (Norm).

Doug and Ruth met at school in Gravenhurst and they were married in 1956.  They lived in several places in Ontario, notably Peterborough and Barrie. They moved to Huntsville in 1970 when a job transfer was offered.

Doug worked in the meat business for his entire career.  He started as a boy at Passmore’s Meat Market in Gravenhurst, his parent’s butcher shop.  He later moved on to be a successful sales representative for Schneiders Foods where he was the North Muskoka/Parry Sound Schneiders’ rep for over 25 years.

After retiring in 1993 he began to enjoy more of his favourite pastimes, such as curling, travelling, and puttering in his workshop.  Doug was a longtime member of the Huntsville Curling Club which he so enjoyed.  He and Ruth went on several long road trips and visited almost every province and territory in Canada.  A highlight of traveling was their annual March drive to Myrtle Beach.  Doug had a well-equipped workshop and enjoyed his many woodworking and fix-it projects. Other activities included fishing and eating cookies!

Doug lived at home until he moved to The Pines in 2023, where he received excellent care.

There will be no public visitation or service.
