John Andrew Litchfield
John Andrew Litchfield passed away on December 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the Algonquin Grace Hospice in Huntsville, Ontario. He was 65 years old.
He was the devoted husband of Laura (Sumners) Litchfield for over 33 years, loving father of Sarah Litchfield (Fraser Lockerbie) and Thomas (Addie) Litchfield. He cherished the all too brief time he was able to spend with granddaughter Lilah Litchfield.
John was predeceased by his dear father Ronald Edward Litchfield. He is also survived by his mother Isabel Diane (Kellock) Litchfield, his sister Kathy Groh (Brian White), and her sons Trevor (Mary) and Steven (Laurie); brother Douglas (Karen) and their children Kyle (Elizabeth), Carly (Luke), and Scott (Cat); brother Robert (Amanda) and their daughters Hannah, Meghan (Tom), and Claire (Ryan) as well as many great nieces and nephews who brought great joy to his final years.
Born in 1960, in Cobourg, John had a happy, adventurous childhood in Ottawa, Calgary, and Oakville, returning to Huntsville every summer to the family cottage on Peninsula Lake. In 1977, the family moved to Huntsville to live year-round. John had deep roots in Huntsville. Both of his parents were born and raised in the area, his grandparents William and Pearl Litchfield owned the Utterson General Store, the Kellock family owned the Kellock Greenhouse in Huntsville, and grandfather Andrew Kellock served as the Town Clerk of Huntsville and grandmother Isabel Kellock was a teacher at Huntsville Public School. John loved to hear stories about the town and its people, past and present.
John graduated from Huntsville High School and studied business at Seneca College in Toronto, then joined his father Ron at Aquacare Inc., serving as General Manager for many years. John was proud of the 14 years spent with Huntsville Honda as Fixed Operations Manager, where he always strove to go above and beyond to make a customer’s day a little better.
John’s favourite places were Algonquin Park and Pen Lake. He loved living in Muskoka and taking full advantage of the outdoors through fishing, camping, skiing, curling, and golf, all activities that allowed him to talk and laugh with friends and family. Over the years he played and coached baseball, coached soccer and served as a hockey team manager and trainer.
He served in the Kinsmen Club for many years, helping with the Santa Claus Parade and other community activities, and on the board of directors of Huntsville Minor Hockey in many roles, including President.
John will be remembered by his family for his stories, his thoughtfulness, and his gentle spirit. To his children and nieces and nephews, he was a constant source of love and laughter, always fully present in every chapter of family life. Friends knew they could count on him for help with any task and for the joy he brought to every gathering. His good humour and endless kindness touched not only those closest to him but the entire community.
John and his family were grateful for the compassionate and considerate care he received in his final months by the team at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital, from the Palliative Care Team, and at Algonquin Grace Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations to the Algonquin Grace Hospice or the Huntsville Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
A celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks. Please check back here, as details will be posted when they become available.
