Rolf Herman Posma
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rolf Posma. He passed away early in the morning on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at his home surrounded by his wife Elisabeth, son Eric, daughter-in-law Samira and grandchildren Aria and Aaron.
Rolf was the middle of three brothers (siblings Bonne and Herman). He always showed great respect for his brothers as well as his mother Elisabeth and father Herman. He experienced a worldly childhood (at times highlighted by turbulent events) being born in Indonesia during World War II. After the war he and his family moved to Holland (the birthplace of his father) before emigrating to Canada with his siblings and parents as a young teenager.
Rolf had a passion for music (was an avid accordion and piano player), wild mushrooms (knew countless species) and a knack for languages. Another passion of his was geology and although this was not his actual career, he would often dedicate a part of his vacation to share his joy and bring his family to the historic gold mining towns of northern Ontario and Quebec.
Rolf was a pleasure to have at family events where his humour was appreciated not only by his wife and son, also stepdaughters Karen and Denise (Ted), grandsons Cody, Jake (Rochelle), Sam and Mitchell. He enjoyed 5 great grandsons as well.
It’s due to these qualities that Rolf’s legacy will leave a mark on us all. It’s our hope that he has found peace and will be remembered for the love and passion he shared with all of us.
The service for Rolf will occur at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 12 Centre Street, North, Huntsville on Saturday January 10th, 2026 at 11am. Reception immediately in the church hall.
A private interment will take place at a later date in the summer at Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery, Huntsville.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
