Werner Fritz Schulz

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Werner Fritz Schulz, who passed away peacefully at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025 at the age of 93.

Werner is pre-deceased by his wife (Niki Schulz) and his daughter Mandy (Manuela) Schumacher (nee Schulz). He is survived by his daughter Jeannette Haueter-Schulz (Rene Haueter), his grandson Jacques all of Romanshorn, Switzerland, his granddaughter Stephanie and partner Thilo of Munich, Germany. He is also survived by his brother Gottfried Schulz, niece Simone Dreissig (nee Schulz) (Sylvio Dreissig), and her daughter Kristin Richter also of Germany. The many good friends he and his wife made along the way, especially in Kitchener. Also, he will be greatly missed by his extended family, the Knochelmann’s of Huntsville.

Werner was born in Kemtau, East Germany, and is where he spent most of his childhood. In the early years Werner worked in Genoa, Italy which he fondly recalled. He then met his wife on a blind date in Konstanz, Germany where everything changed.

They immigrated to Canada from Konstanz, Germany in 1966, first to Vancouver, then moved to Toronto, and finally to Huntsville on South Portage Road on Lake of Bays in 1973. He preferred the community in Huntsville, especially the German-Canadian Club.

If you ever had a conversation with Werner he could tell you stories from way back when and would often give his advice. He loved to play his harmonica, making beautiful music, and watching and cheering on his favorite hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the last few years he moved from Lake of Bays to be closer to town where he enjoyed riding his scooter all around town, checking things out, talking with everyone, having a beer at the Brewery, and a meal at his favorite restaurant, the Family Place. He was a hard worker and would always manage to get into doing something, like his wood working projects and fixing things.

Werner lived a long life filled with love, laughter, and wisdom, leaving an incredible mark on all who knew him.

Special thanks to all the Doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department and the West Wing of the Huntsville Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion in making Werner feel comfortable in his last few days.

As per the family’s request there will be no funeral.

Cremation has taken place.
