John Charles Edward Russell

August 14, 1946 to February 9, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Russell on Monday, February 9th., 2026.  John passed peacefully at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Center in Barrie surrounded by members of his family.

John was beloved by family and friends alike and is survived by his wife Gail and his siblings Steven and Ellen Russell, his children Edward Russell, Tina Gallagher, Danielle Russell and Ashley Russell; his grandchildren Megan Hirons, husband Dave Hirons, and Steven Gallagher; and his great grandson Liam Hirons as well as his stepdaughters Brenda Little and Cheryl Wilson, his step grandsons Douglas and Ian Little and his step great grandson Christopher Little. He was preceded in death by his son Steven, parents Lennox and Margery and his sister Gail Cere.

During his career, John was an electrician who worked at numerous industrial sites in the Toronto area. When he retired, he moved to Huntsville where he continued learning about various topics of interest including economics, politics and science and spent more time in the great outdoors. Always curious about how things work and the underlying science, he most recently built a gantry to singlehandedly move the large boulders in his yard in order clear the space to build a wooden shed. To the best of our knowledge, he never had the opportunity to experience firsthand what happens if you cook a whole egg in a microwave.

Family and friends are welcome to remember John on February 19 at the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 High Street, Huntsville, Ontario from 1 to 3p.m. Family tributes at 2:30.
