Frohild Kerzel
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frohild Kerzel on January 1st, 2026, after a sudden and brief illness.
Frohild was a wonderful Sister, Wife, Mother and Oma. Married to Theo Kerzel for 62 years, until his passing in 2022. She is survived by her children, Chris Kerzel (Linda Street) and Eva Kerzel, and grandchildren, Elyse, Raquel, and Christian; also, her former daughter in law, Lois King, Mother to Christian.
Frohild was born in 1936 in Göttingen, Germany. She immigrated to Canada in 1959 after spending her 20s traveling to places such as Australia and India. She and Theo met on the journey over to Canada and subsequently married in 1960.
Frohild and Theo chose to settle down and made a lovely home in Toronto, where they raised their 2 children. Frohild was a wonderful cook, gardener and irreplaceable as a Mother and Oma.
In 1993 Frohild and Theo retired to their cottage on Lake of Bays, where they enjoyed many relaxing years together. They then moved to Huntsville in 2004, where they both spent their joyful remaining years.
In her later years, Frohild enjoyed feeding the neighbourhood birds, shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughters, as well as cooking and baking traditional German dishes for weekly family dinner nights, such as Zwetschgenkuchen (German plum cake), Rouladen (German beef and pickle roll), and Spätzle (traditional German egg noodles). Oma's house was always the place for gathering and hosting the holidays together as a family. We will deeply miss Oma's kind words, cooking, and love of local history, which often took us on adventures to many a ghost town.
Frohild is deeply missed by many, and we know she and her late husband Theo are happily reunited.
No public service will be held as per Frohild’s wishes.
